Since people have added me recently: have an introduction!

I am Waffle: The Old Lady of the Internet.

Which is to say I do a lot of knitting and complaining while drinking tea with a cat in my lap and then going to bed early. If I had a lawn I'm sure it would be a constant battle to keep children off of it.

I'm always happy to talk with people, probably to the point where I'm annoying, fair thee be warned. I'm bad about updating my journal, but I can be found on Plurk as [plurk.com profile] wafflicious most often or on gchat as loquora.

Currently I play at [community profile] cfud and [community profile] thusia with a weird variety of characters. (Currently I'm Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Finn the Human Boy @ CFUD and Shion Izumi, Blaze/Roy Mustang and Namikaze Minato @ Thusia)

What else am I supposed to say here?
loquacious: (Got a light?)
There's been a lot of interest on my Plurk List recently about knitting and I've had several people ask how to get started. So here's a quick and dirty get started guide that's focused mostly on what you need to buy to get started and why.

So you want to learn how to knit... )
Needles )

My suggestion is to get a pair of ~13" (~33cm) long size 8 (5mm) needles in either metal or bamboo. (Example bamboo and metal needles I'm quite fond of)

Yarn )

I recommend getting relatively cheap size 4/worsted weight yarn in any color you like. (This Caron Simply Soft is probably one of my favorites overall for feel, color and ease to work with)

Other Stuff )

If anyone has questions, or if I missed something, please let me know.
I am happy to help out with advice and WTFs, both here on my journal and on Plurk. Otherwise, any beginner pattern suggestions? I'll add some in when I can!

In an effort to actually keep up with my Dreamwidth I am updating about the one thing that doesn't make me upset right now: needlework!

Words on knitting and crochet )
Fair warning: I will probably discuss and vent on pattern development here quite a bit. I'm still fairly new at it and getting more practice and I will probably fail more than I will succeed until I have a few patterns under my belt. But I'm determined and I have some awesome ideas I would love to see make it into production eventually (cough-Rayquaza)

Currently in the works:
Wooper - crochet - gift
Slant knot scarf - knit - gift
Hurricane hat - knit - gift
Spiral legwarmers - knit - unsure
Tiny Assassins - crochet - personal/pattern development

If anyone has suggestions or patterns to share I'm always open. At the moment I'm working too many things as gifts and requests to want to take on more, but eventually I would like to take requests again.

Catch up

In the spirit of me trying not to be a complete hobo recluse... I'm posting! Crossposting even.

I've been up to my eyeballs in work lately. Who knew being a responsible adult with a real job would require so much time and energy? I work in sales now, for a website called ShopAtHome.com which is actually kind of sweet. Basically, you shop online through their site and you get cash back on things you buy. I started working there before Christmas and ended up getting a post-holiday check of over $100 after buying half my presents through the site. Not too bad. However people I talk to regularly will note how much my job kicks my ass, so enough about them.

I'm still not busy enough to be cured of RP. I ran out of steam for Camp, and landed over at Sabra. I'm loving Sabra a ton, mostly because I'm playing a couple of characters I never really thought I'd play... and yet fit my app pattern surprisingly well. There are also plans in the works for things... and possibly stuff. But that's still pie in one or more skies.

For now I'm content to try and sort out my many zillions of stuff that never seems to stop going on. Including: I got a Plurk! I never though I'd do it, but I finally gave in. I'm still trying to sort it all out.

More updates as they come to me... possibly. And I'll try to get my fic journal updated sometime soonish. Gah... so behind!
loquacious: (lr - what's eating you?)
Wrist in a cast, will be for a week or so. So much news and can't type. I will return, internets!

I just disappeared off the face of the internet for a while. Part of it is, as Tot put it, I accidentally a boyfriend. Long story short, my grandmother set me up with a guy and he's very sweet and way too tall for his own good. There are still some things to work out but it's been going really well so far. [knock on wood]

I've also been consumed by the yarn gods... I've been knitting hardcore. Like, I have 4 big bags of yarn with projects in mind and about 5 different projects started on needles in a different bag. On top of that, I'm also trying to learn to crochet, but that hasn't been going as well. I've made some cute hats so far, socks are next on my list of things to try. But I really want to get the crocheting working first, it's just kind of counter-intuitive to what I'm used to knitting and WAY harder to count. But I seem to know way more people who know how to do that than knit, so I guess I'm in good shape as far as help.

And finally killing my time, my temp agency set me up with an actual full time job. It's not too bad, I'm sort of getting used to it, but it does eat most of a day pretty well. But I'm finally getting used to everything and I might actually be able to juggle everything in my life again.

Now: Pictures!

I'm just linking them since the photos are giant and I'm not in the mood to shrink them down for a post.

My first finished hat... and my mother.

The little ear hat in process.

The ear hat finished!

I got the pattern for the little ear hat here. I moved the ears a little, because I messed some stuff up at the very beginning.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

In the spirit of which: I now have my 4th new hard drive for this laptop in less than a year. I'm still resetting everything and trying very hard not to get my hopes up that this will be the one that works. I was so angry at Dell after I talked to them that I had the options of punching a brick wall or getting trashed.

... Apologies to all the people I drunk-IMed Wednesday night.

Other news: 20th Century Boys continues to rock my socks off. Details at 11.

Seriously though, the series is unbelievably good. I'm sad I didn't read it years ago. I will finish it soon and then put up thoughts all over my journal. BECAUSE IT DESERVES COMMENT.
loquacious: (All hail King Neptune)
I still haven't gotten around to writing out all the stuff that's happened of late. But considering I'm going to be out of a job soon, that's likely to change.

But I just had to share that I got tickets to the Gorillaz Plastic Beach tour and I am SO EXCITED. Seriously, there are two bands in the world that I would go to great lengths to get tickets for, and I already got to see The Pillows when I was in Japan. (Spoiler: They kicked serious ass)

So now I get to count down to October.

I feel bad for not having a cheery update recently, but mostly because I haven't had the time.

Having Bear here was a blast, I knew a week wouldn't be long enough. But I will have to write more about that later.

At the moment I'm dealing with an impacted wisdom tooth that is apparently also infected.

When I had my bottom two wisdom teeth taken out I was told the top ones would never need to be removed. But this is the second infection for this particular tooth and the pain has been so bad lately I've been functioning entirely on a mix of pain killers (mainly Tylenol since I have Issues with anything stronger) and vodka. This is not a permanent solution, but at least I finally have a referral and x-rays that should be the first step in me getting oral surgery.

Huzzah.

I've had more oral surgery in my life than most people, I would say. This will mark my 5th major surgery and I'm only 25. I'm not particularly scared of the dentist or of anything they would do to me. But I don't do well with heavy pain meds. In fact, I'm a serious mess with them. But I guess it's better than the mind numbing pain I'm in now.

Computer: Broken again.

I called tech support and they told me they couldn't do ANYTHING for me unless I had anti-virus software installed. Never mind the fact that I had a new hard drive installed a week ago and that my computer is doing the same thing it did for months before I had the new hard drive. Of course, I downloaded, by accident, the exact same virus I had before in the last week of surfing the internet. Magic.

Work: Getting better.

Life: Very busy.

Me: Going to bed early.

I've got a wicked case of the Angries going right now, and I don't want to take it out on anyone. Except tech support.

THEY KNOW WHY.
loquacious: (kenichi - ~so manry~)
I'm feeling so good tonight... no idea why.

I should write this down now so the next time I'm feeling down I can look back at this and remember that life isn't always going against me and things are going to be okay.

And now, a happy dance.

sigh...

Just had my computer fixed.... again. I got a new LCD screen as well as a new hard drive. That makes the second LCD AND the second hard drive I've had to have replaced on this laptop in the last year. They said if they have to come fix the problem again they're just going to give me a new computer. Which might be nice, as much as I love this computer, I've never had a laptop give me this kind of trouble.

But for now I just have to go through and re-set the computer to my settings. At least it's easier since it's only been 6 months since the last time I did it.

It kills me that I can't remember all the usernames that are supposed to be on my LJlogin thing.

  • Down to four days of work at my main job. I'm totally okay with this, I still work 1 day a week at my other job and this way I'll be less burned out.

  • The warren of rabbits in our backyard just had a new batch of babies. They're so cute it kind of hurts, even when the grass is short they barely show up over the top of it. ♥

  • The German guy finally pissed me off to the point where I'm staying away from the game entirely for a while. The server is a bit fucked anyway with 3-1 3-2 just being implemented. Maybe by the time I'm ready to go back things will be less fucked.

  • Trying to get my mojo back for writing. Not that I've ever been good at writing... but I do enjoy it.

  • SO EXCITED FOR AUGUST. Seriously, can't stress enough how much I want it to be August right now. Unf.

  • Eleventh Doctor is so awesome.♥ I'm so SO looking forward the finale.

Ugh.

Ragnarok Online is my crack. I will freely admit to this. But it ruins my buzz when some punk ass German guy thinks that me being civil to him in the game means I want to talk to him all the time. I don't want to spend every waking second I'm online in the game being pestered by you and judged on what my character is wearing/not wearing or what her stats are. And when I say "No, I'm going to do X instead" that's not a request for you to follow me.

In short: People need to stop being creepy and ruining my fun time games.

We got a new shipment of ladybugs yesterday, and there was a bag that wasn't sealed right. I kept finding escapees and I was trying to let them go outside and be free! Unfortunately, three of them thought freedom meant taking off the counter I was working on and flying down the front of my shirt. It's really hard to explain what you're doing when other people see you trying to gently remove something from your bra that tickles so much.
loquacious: (Uh oh...)
Today at work I had to try and save over 100,000 ladybugs from a hot, cruel death. They came to us from FedEx where they had been in a truck for the past 2 days in the 100 degree heat. Poor ladybugs... they didn't do anything to deserve their lot.

The only plus side was that after we watered them down heavily we managed to salvage about 20,000 that I didn't think were going to make it. I'm glad I won't be there tomorrow when they figure out how many lasted the night.

S-sob.
